The Guest Cottage
Location: Bath, UK
Size: 925 sq. ft.
Sector: Residential
A calm Grade II* listed Georgian cottage in the landscaped grounds of a larger house, situated on the edge of Bath. The client wanted a peaceful space for friends and family to stay whilst visiting them in Bath. The Guest Cottage is an idyllic base for exploring the city.
Care was taken to retain and celebrate its simple cottage charm - to not over design or over perfect the finish. The small scale of the cottage required some careful space planning and a bespoke kitchen to achieve a comfortable and usable space for modern living.
The ground floor features a light filled room overlooking the garden accessed from outside, we repurposed this as a summer dining space filled with plants, perfect for summer feasts and gatherings.
The existing features were sensitively restored - the floorboards and panel doors were taken back to their original timber finish. The charming odd door knobs retained and reinstalled, celebrating the character and evolving story of the building.
Bauwerkpaint features throughout the interior, allowing the bath stone and lime plaster walls to breathe and adding subtle texture. A mix of new and antique timber furniture paired with natural and sustainable fabrics compliment the simple aesthetic.
